About The Refractor Project

The Refractor Project is a sports card project by Tim Dehring, set out to collect one refractor from each set released in the 1990s, through all 4 major sports: baseball, basketball, football, and hockey.

I started this website because I want to be able to display my collection for everyone to see.

Ever since their debut in 1993, I’ve been intrigued by this parallel that Topps released and wanted to be able to collect at least one refractor from each set that was released. Topps Finest, Topps Chrome, Bowman’s Best, Bowman Chrome, and even the short-lived Stadium Club Chrome; base set, subsets, and inserts if available.

I decided to focus on the 1990s for this project because it seems that as the set became more popular, Topps became lazy and decided to forgo the “etching” that makes the refractors really shine, for lack of a better term. I may branch out into the 2000s and 2010s, but I’ll decide that at a later date.

Since this will take some time, the website will always be in an under construction status. However, the site will be functional, the galleries viewable, and the checklist will be available to anyone curious to see my progress.

Lastly, if you happen to come across cards that aren’t listed in my checklist, by all means, contact me and let me know so that I can update it and attempt to obtain them.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy what I’ve put together.
