Updates

Wow, it’s been almost 2 years since I posted here on the site. In fact, it’s probably been roughly 2 years since I did anything with the site. Which is a shame because I’ve obtained refractors during that time.

First, I’ve updated the checklist with cards I own (baseball and football), and I’ve updated the football checklist to look more complete with the amount of refractors produced during the 90s. Now, I’m sure it’s incomplete and all, but it’s a hell of a lot better than being a blank page cough basketball and hockey cough.

Second, I really need a new scanner. There’s no way around it; the one I have now just doesn’t seem to scan the cards and do them justice for display purposes. So, until I can find one that I’m happy with, I probably won’t have any new scans up.

But hey, the project isn’t dead. It’s just moving along at a snail’s pace.

It’s been a few months since I last posted, and to be honest, not much has really changed. I’ve been searching for refractors to add to my collection, as well as attempting to compile a decent checklist for each sport. The later of course is the hardest to do, especially given my lack of knowledge with other sports outside of baseball.

With that in mind, I’d like to keep the blog section active by posting a refractor spotlight every so often, consisting of a card from any sport that has a refractor parallel in the 1990s.

New Additions to Baseball Gallery

When I launched the website publicly last week, a lot of visitors pointed out that the baseball gallery was lacking in cards. To be fair, I knew that going into the launch and even mentioned that I was looking for feedback on the site in general, and that the few cards I did display, were there to show visitors what the page would look like when viewed.

Football Refractor Additions

1994 Finest Refractor Andre Tippet

I haven’t even come close to finishing the baseball section, and I’ve already obtained a few football refractors.

I love the look of this card. The players seem to be popping out of the football, the detailed etching, and of course, the way the colors pop.

The Refractor Project 2.0

1999 Topps Chrome Refractor Mariano Rivera WS

I started this website a couple of years back with the intention of collecting and displaying refractor cards from the 1990s. I put the site on hold for a while due to health issues, but I always had the intention of coming back to this collection and work my way towards completing that goal.

The first time I saw a refractor in person, which was when 1993 Topps Finest debuted, I was hooked. At first, they were inserted at a rate of one per box, which is unheard of anymore. Later releases saw more than one per box, but the chase was still strong.
